Week Beginning - 22.06.2009

Monday 22nd June:

Last week was a busy one. SANCTUM and THE FRYING PAN took a trip down to Kempton for the Wednesday evening meeting at the Middlesex all weather track. The former was having her second run and still looks to have a little bit to learn. Her travelling companion, THE FRYING PAN, also showed plenty of signs of greenness in her race and both will certainly have benefited from the experience.

On the Friday, the old boy SILENT APPLAUSE, strolled over to one of his favourite haunts. Weekends on the July Course here at Newmarket are really his cup of tea especially when the rain has stayed away and the ground is rattling underfoot. Partnered by  wily old South African jockey, Kevin Shea (steered him into 2nd at the same venue last year) and led up by his dearest friend, Sammie, he took on 6 rivals,  jumped out in front and kept on improving his position. A masterful ride from a top jockey gave some longstanding owners their first taste of victory and notched up the 7th winning offspring of mare BILLIE BLUE for breeder Tony Dalton.

Saturday was a slightly less satisfactory trip to the races with ROMANTICIZE tackling 7 furlongs for the first time. Nothing went right for her in the race as she found herself bang on the pace far too early.

Tuesday 23rd June: Looking forward to a little more action on the track. IVY THE TERRIBLE should be making her second trip to the races on Thursday. Her destination this time is Warwick where she takes on 7 opponents under the guidance of senior jockey Steve Drowne. Looking a little further ahead to the month of July, BIG NOISE has an entry in the very valuable 7 furlong handicap (formerly the totesport International and now the Abu Dhabi International) on Ascot's King George day, Saturday 25th July. He ran a phenomenal race there last year to finish 7th and a hair's breadth away from the prize money.

Saturday 27th June: IVY THE TERRIBLE returns from Warwick with instructions from the jockey to up her in trip. His advice will be heeded for her next outing. Meanwhile we continue the search for a race on decent ground for BOBBY CHARLES who is ready and raring to go. He looks 'mega' according to one of his regular work partners. Entries have been made for him next Thursday at both Newbury and Yarmouth.
