Week Beginning -29.06.2009

Monday 29th June: It's hot! Very hot and in order to make life as comfortable as possible we've adopted slightly different hours today. Exercise started an hour early so we were up very early, shortly before we went to bed, it seemed! Nothing was turned out during the burning middle of the day. Instead they went out later in the afternoon and enjoyed the cooler temperatures and a pleasant breeze!

BIG NOISE has an entry for Saturday in a 7 furlong handicap at Leicester and while we hope for meaty thunder storms at Newbury and Great Yarmouth for BOBBY CHARLES on Thursday we will encourage the heavier variety to avoid Leicester.

Looks as if SILENT APPLAUSE has really set the ball rolling for his South African jockey, Kevin Shea. Our little horse's victory on the July Course has clearly shown him the way as he came home in front in both Listed and Group company on Saturday.

Wednesday 1st July: BOBBY CHARLES will not be featuring on any of Britain's racecourses tomorrow! Our concerns about the going were not unfounded. The availability of his required underfoot conditions looks unlikely at both Great Yarmouth and Newbury.

Thursday 2nd July: If all goes to plan BIG NOISE should be making his seasonal bow at Leicester on Saturday afternoon. He takes on 10 rivals in a 7 furlong handicap. Sir Michael Stoute's talented young apprentice Louis-Philippe Beuzelin will take 5lbs off the horse's back. With weather (and therefore ground) conditions a little uncertain, the horse has an alternative entry here on Newmarket's July Course next Wednesday.

Friday 3rd July: Up and about at the crack of dawn again. THE FRYING PAN is one of the early birds as she takes a trip down the Cambridge Road polytrack prior to being entered at Warwick next Thursday. Meanwhile all eyes are on the weather forecast to see what's in store for BIG NOISE at Leicester tomorrow. He's a chap that doesn't go for extremes. Showers have fallen on the Oadby track during the day and with any luck the going will suit.

Sunday 5th July: Come on hear the noise!!! Yes, indeed, BIG NOISE raised the roof at Leicester yesterday as he came home half a length ahead of the field in the feature race on the card, 'The John Smith's No Nonsense Handicap'. Steered skilfully by teenage apprentice Louis-Philippe Beuzelin, he showed no signs of ring rustiness after a lengthy break. Tucked in early from the worst of draws, he was always travelling and despite hitting the front well over a furlong from home he never looked in danger of being beaten.

Tuesday 7th July: Eyes on the heavens as THE FRYING PAN is declared for Warwick on Thursday. She finds herself in the first division of the 7 furlong 2 year old maiden with the unhelpful draw of 12 of 12! Shane Kelly takes the ride. As rain falls all day here in Newmarket, connections hope a little of the wet stuff is also finding its way over to Warwick. The 'f' word is not required in the going description.

Thursday 9th July: THE FRYING PAN stays at home today. BOBBY CHARLES is given a grudging entry for Wednesday at Kempton. A run on the grass is what the doctor is really ordering but predicting where the horse will get his ground is beginning to frustrate!

Saturday 11th July: There is another vague promise of rain and with it come a couple more entries for BOBBY CHARLES on the turf. Both are on Friday. The first is at Newbury, the final race of an afternoon card. The second is at Newmarket, the first on an evening card. There are 10 minutes between the two! The racing here at HQ precedes an evening of crowd-pulling music performed by the 'Pussy Cat Dolls'.
