NEWS ARCHIVE

Week Beginning - 07.09.2009

Monday 7th September:

As well as already having an entry at Doncaster on Friday (91 to 105 handicap over 6 and 1/2 furlongs), BIG NOISE is also entered in a 7 furlong handicap at Goodwood on Saturday afternoon. This time the ratings band is 86 to 100. CONTEMPLATE has an entry on Saturday. Hers is on the all-weather track at Wolverhampton in the evening. The entry is huge and she looks unlikely to get a run. She's ready to go, so other options will be explored.

Tuesday 8th September: An exciting day with two new recruits to the Red House ranks.

One is a handsome  2 year old gelding by DOMEDRIVER out of MISS PRISM and is a half-brother to 3 winners from 4 runners and the other is a 2 year old filly by ROYAL APPLAUSE out of IMPULSIVE DECISION. She is a half sister to 6 winners. She arrived in the yard at lunchtime and by teatime her pedigree had already been updated with her 3 year old half brother Santefisio clocking up a narrow victory in the last race at Lingfield. Now, that's what we call 'timing'!

Wednesday 9th September: A declaration is made for BIG NOISE at Doncaster on Friday. He finds himself in a very competitive handicap, dropping back in trip to 6 and 1/2 furlongs. It looks as if he'll get his ground as there is a nice big high parked over the country for a couple of days. However, young Louis-Philippe Beuzelin has not been passed fit to resume race-riding so Ted Durcan takes his place. Ted knows the horse as he rode him to win here at Newmarket in 2007.

Thursday 10th September: A couple more entries to post. Having declared CONTEMPLATE for Wolverhampton on Saturday evening and been balloted out we try again with an entry in the last at Great Yarmouth on Tuesday afternoon. THE FRYING PAN also has her name down for Tuesday but  she would be off to Kempton in the evening.

The new 'boys' had front shoes fitted today. They will be ready to start proper work next week, as we start breaking them in.

An update to SANCTUM'S pedigree to bring you. Her 6 year old 1/2 brother Prince Picasso, already a multiple winner on the flat and over hurdles, was second at Epsom yesterday. He had been racing in Ireland, but is now back over here with Richard Fahey.

Saturday 12th September: BIG NOISE was fifth in an extremely competitive contest yesterday at magnificently sunny Doncaster, finishing with effect in a race not run to his strengths. Without cover early on and then switched left in the final furlong he did well to get as close as he did, going down by around 3 lengths.

Doncaster, bathed in September sunshine and embellished by pretty ladies in colourful attire, was a fantastic advert for racing. Change is not what we need, just more of this!

THE FRYING PAN'S entries continue with a possible visit to Great Yarmouth on Thursday next week.
