Week Beginning - 05.01.2009
Headlong into the New Year and all to play for. There were mass birthdays yesterday. Notably MERSEYSIDE MAN hit the venerable old age of 23, JAWANI celebrated his 21st and HERR TRIGGER his 18th!
Monday 5th January: Yesterday was weights and measures day. All the horses in training were weighed and their heights recorded. The 2 heaviest candidates were 558 kilos and the lightest was 426 kilos. Heights varied from 15 hands all the way up to 16.2 and 1/2. Horses in serious training have their weights checked on a regular basis and those off to the races cross the weighbridge before they leave and again they day after they return. Data is kept on file in the office.
Monday 12th January: We survived a week of battle against icy blasts and sub zero temperatures, now replaced with the equally testing wind and rain. Neither is weather particularly relished by horses or those who look after them. Conditions also curtailed the public presentation of the sport with jumping frozen off, one all weather meeting snowed off and several others obscured by fog!
Tuesday 13th January: Lincoln entries today and in goes BIG NOISE. It's a long way away, the last Saturday in March but it gives us all something to look forward to during the dark January days!
