Week Beginning - 09.02.09 Monday 9th February: Last week ended well with all the horses managing their scheduled Saturday exercise despite the prevailing icy blast. The safest option was to remain behind the yard on the Hamilton Hill exercise ground. For the first time that we can recall, the all weather surfaces on the exposed Heath were frozen.
The cold snap hasn't halted demolition works over the road. Down came the trainer's house last week! As for the rubble, it is being chewed up by a voracious mechanical monster and spat out in a more 'manageable' form which is removed from the site in a fleet of lorries. Saturday 14th February: Love is in the air and life is rendered a whole lot easier as the weather loosens its arctic grip and the sun shines. The horses can all have a decent exercise without fear of slippery surfaces or frozen canters. George can escape the confines of the lunge bed to be driven in long reins round the yard. Hitherto it has been too icy to perform this operation safely.
