Week Beginning - 09.03.09

Tuesday 3rd March: Today was a 'big day out' for George. Ridden away in the yard at the weekend, he had his first taste of the big, wide world when, chaperoned by BRONX BOMBER, he successfully negotiated a lap of the Hamilton Hill.

Thursday 5th March: BOBBY CHARLES is given an entry at Kempton's evening meeting next Wednesday.

Friday 6th March: Two more entries go into the book today. CONTEMPLATE is engaged in a 7 furlong median maiden auction at Southwell next Thursday and BOBBY CHARLES is put in a 12 furlong handicap at the same venue. His race at Kempton is oversubscribed and he is not certain to get a run. The Southwell fixture is a higher grade and he may slip out of the handicap.

Meanwhile the sales team has hotfooted it down to Kempton on a mission to the first Breeze Ups of the season. And their mission is not in vain. Back they come with a very taking 2 year old filly by that great miler Barathea out of a mare called Hello Mary. As the hammer came down, so began an adventure for a new recruit to the ranks of racehorse ownership.

Wednesday 11th March: CONTEMPLATE is Southwell bound tomorrow (Thursday) for her 2nd racecourse appearance. It will be her first experience of all weather competition but she will be guided round by a very experienced jockey in Dale Gibson.

The new kid on the block, the Barathea 2 year old filly has been out at exercise this week and has settled in very well.

Friday 13th March: It was off to Southwell yesterday with CONTEMPLATE where she ran a respectable race under Dale Gibson. She broke nicely and travelled well through the first part of the race but was found out by the testing fibresand surface coming down the straight. The jockey commented on what a beautiful mover she is and the deep sand is perhaps an inconvenience. She has returned home in good shape and she and the team here have all learnt a bit from her endeavours.
