Week Beginning - 29.12.08

Monday 15th December: Life continues apace and there is plenty to do while the horses aren't appearing in public. The annual 'flu revaccination project is underway.  The majority of the inmates are given their injections on Christmas eve, but those who do not fit the pattern must be treated beforehand. Our 2 fillies bought at the recent December Sales are cases in point and were duly vaccinated on Saturday. They have begun lunging exercise and once clipped they will be reintroduced to tack and put back into training.  

 

                                                                                                             

 

Wednesday 17th December: A rotund DOLLY COUGHDROP leaves Red House Stables for the maternity paddocks of Walton Fields Stud in Leicestershire. Covered by First Trump early in March, it is indeed high time she left to prepare herself for a February foaling.

 

                                                                                                                                                                               

 

Saturday 27th December: Despite the demands of the festive season, it is still the horses that come first in a racing yard. However, their routine goes slightly astray in order to accommodate the necessary staff holidays. Christmas Eve was a normal day here until the vet arrived to administer flu vaccinations to those still needing them. During evening stables there was a 'mass worming session' with all the boys and girls treated to a dose that should keep them healthy for the next 3 months. Christmas Day and Boxing Day saw a few of the lucky ones turned out and it was back to work for everyone today.

The 2 new fillies, ROMANTICIZE and SANCTUM have both been clipped and have been out and about at trotting exercise. Fortunately, neither has complained too much at being dragged back into training and we look forward to seeing how they progre
