HISTORY

HAVING held a license since 1988, the good doctor is bound to have amassed a little history as the years have passed.

Some of the history remains current in its own way.  The first two yearlings he purchased as he set off on his journey as a trainer were the wonderful Billie Blue and the equally wonderful Four-legged Friend both of whom are still alive and well and continuing productive existences as broodmares.

The former has been the most fantastic servant to her devoted owner Tony Dalton.  She has produced a host of winners including multiple group race winner Tumbleweed Ridge, Tumbleweed Pearl herself the dam of the top class 2 year old and Queen Mary winner Gilded, the highly talented Deep Blue, Bobbydazzle who scooped the richest Nursery in Europe and current resident (and trainer's wife's favourite!) Generator.  As for Four-Legged Friend, she was the trainer's first ever winner and she went on to win a 2 year old Listed event at Newmarket's July meeting lowering the colours of Superpower who was unbeaten in 6 races beforehand.

She herself is the dam of 6 winners including our own dear Herr Trigger who, now in his teens and totally bonkers!, still resides at Red House Stables and is ridden out on a daily basis by Sammie, Jon's daughter.

A little too sentimental for their own good, the Scargills have found it impossible to part with a couple of other "old boys" who did them proud on the racecourse. Merseyside Man, purchased with the last £1500 Jon and Sue had in the bank, racked up a string of wins on the new all-weather surface at Lingfield and then promptly stopped winning when there was a £25,000 bonus at  stake!  Jawani, a dual winner on the flat, was a magnificent multiple winner over hurdles.

Our Rita, who went over to Australia as a broodmare, won the 1994 Lincoln Handicap for Red House Stables.  She really was a legend.  Ugly, badly conformed and seriously grumpy she was the most superb racehorse.  She and her friend Gilbert the Goat travelled far and wide to notch up a hatful of wins and gain Listed black type on 2 occasions.

Other old favourites who have won a race or 2 and raised the odd cheer over the years include Sign People, Pips Song, Bobby Charles, Princess Taufan (winner of the National Stakes), Dream's End (placed in the Ebor Handicap), Trojan Lancer (won the Cumberland Plate), Aldbourne King Al and three time winning dam of Le Vie Dei Colori, Mystic Tempo
