2010 ARCHIVE - one or two reminders of the year past
Wednesday 8th December: Beautiful but dangerous: thoroughbred racehorses, the weather and both!
Here we go round the Hamilton Hill on a cold and frosty morning.
Thursday 2nd December: Snow falls but spirits are kept up as we make continued good progress with the yearlings. They are trotting merrily round the yard behind the hack, waiting for the weather to improve. When it does they'll venture out.
Snow bother: yearlings undeterred by the weather
Wednesday 24th November: Our two yearling fillies have now been officially backed and ridden outside in the yard. They have taken every step in their stride so far. Long may it continue.
Piccolo and Choisir fillies ridden in the yard: something to smile about...some of the time.
Thursday 4th November: It is an exciting time breaking in yearlings and fascinating to monitor how quickly the babies pick up what is required. These two fillies (Choisir ex Impulsive Decision and Piccolo ex Glider) have both done everything asked of them this week. They have now had the roller fitted in the stable and today side reins were added.
Choisir filly (grey) and Piccolo filly (chesnut): model pupils so far.
Monday 1st November: Monday (and the first day of November to boot) was brightened up by the successful application of the roller on the yearling fillies by Choisir and Piccolo.
Light the blue touch paper and prepare for fireworks: Piccolo filly (left) and Choisir filly (right)
Sunday 17th October:We have two new babies in the yard in the form of two yearling fillies from the Tattersalls October Sales.
All to play for: fillies by Piccolo and Choisir.
Tuesday 5th October:
JUNKET led the field home in some style at Windsor yesterday afternoon. The October gloom lifted and the late afternoon sun shone down on the filly as she took up the running some way out and came home a good 4 lengths ahead of her rivals. She had been declared at Leicester today as well due to uncertainty with the weather. Windsor passed an inspection in the morning so we opted for 6 furlongs on the soft there rather than a more testing 7 furlongs on heavy going at the Midlands track.

JUNKET: the sweet taste of success
Tuesday 10th August: Today featured a visit to deepest Northampton to see TORVER and her colt foal by Bertolini. He looks in fine fettle, full of fun and increasing confidence.
TORVER and her favourite son.
Monday 9th August: The seventh running of the 'Chris Wotton Cup' went off extremely well with a win for Henry Cecil and an enjoyable day for all concerned. This year, after consultation with the Wotton family, we doubled up the event with a surprise for the trainer's mother in law! The race bore the title: The EBF Ruth Watson hits 80 this year fillies' handicap (for The Chris Wotton Cup) and the eponymous heroine only discovered this shortly after midday on Saturday. (see below)
Meanwhile, if you have a spare moment there is a chance to watch SILENT APPLAUSE's win at Epsom in pictures and music. Go to his page on the website or click here for a direct link.
Friday 2nd July: It was Derby Day for the JPT Partnership yesterday evening at Epsom when SILENT APPLAUSE followed WORKFORCE'S path around the 12 furlong course and into the winners' enclosure. Half a furlong out we were settling for 3rd position but the brave, little horse thought otherwise, rallied and got up by a head. Liam Keniry picked up the ride at the eleventh hour with intended jockey Louis-Philippe Beuzelin delayed on the road to the Surrey track.
Just passing through: winning smiles in the unsaddling enclosure at Epsom
