SHOEING

The saying goes 'No foot, no horse'. Equine 'pedicure' is of the utmost importance.
Follow our farrier as he performs a routine shoeing.

Armed with the tools of the trade, the harmonious farrier is set to work

Near-fore shoe removed using buffer (left hand) and nailing on hammer

Foot is dressed using farrier's knife

Excess foot trimmed off using nippers

Foot is levelled using rasp

New shoe is altered on stand (storejack) with a bang or two of the altering hammer

New shoe is carefully fitted to foot and 3 nails hammered in on each side

Ringing off
Sharp ends twisted off

Nails drawn up ready for clenching

Clenches folded

and rasped

Foot dressed
