Something for the Weekend

by the Spotter

IT DOESN'T feel that long since it started but the Flat season reaches its climax at Doncaster this Saturday with the feature being the Totesport.com November Handicap.  Throughout the season Jamie Spencer and Seb Sanders have fought out an epic battle for Champion jockey but neither of them will be adding to their tallies in this race, as Richard Hills’s Heaven Knows looks a decent chance.  Half brother to the gutsy and classy Notnowcato he has taken time to show the level of form which prompted Sheikh Hamdan to purchase him privately at the start of the season.  However a step up in trip seems to have worked for him and despite the ground being quicker than ideal (best form has been shown on good ground or slower) he just might have the overriding class to end the season on a high.  The preceding contest is the Listed Totetentofollow.co.uk Wentworth Stakes over 6f.  It’s a contest that mainly sees a mixture of fair handicappers, horses that aren’t quite Group class and fillies chasing “black type”.  The main form line seems to be the Bentinck Stakes run at Newmarket recently.  That race was won well by Godolphin’s Greek Renaissance with a majority of those beaten re-contesting this time around.  Borderlescott has come agonisingly close to collecting something big this year and for an inch longer nose he would have retained his Stewards Cup crown.  He was beaten into fourth in the aforementioned Newmarket race but faces the winner on 6lb better terms for a three length defeat and this admiral little horse can finish the season on a high.
